The series is set in the Bakumatsu era, with the Shogunate being in its final years, and war fast approaching. When Akizuki Yōjirō, a dark and mysterious mercenary, nears something supernatural with some kind of importance to him, the ornament on the end of his sword hilt waves in its direction, his eyes glow mysteriously, and he is driven to go after it. He comes across a traveling theater group who is out for revenge for the killing of the parents of the group's leader, and whose mysterious playwright likes to secretly help along events of history. Yōjirō joins them to lend them his skill against their enemies, while dark conspiracy continues to follow behind him.
My Thoughts So Far:
Ok. I finally started watching stuff in my queue...LOL. What can I say? This series is turning out to be really good. How could it not be? It is a period anime with samurai and supernatural stuff. There are parts that are kinda irritating because it was set in a period where the "westerners" were in Japan so some use guns which I do not particularly like. It is set in that period so I should not be complaining.
I do love the opening song! It is so catchy! For the first time I actually do not forward it and I just listen to it! So far I am on episode 6 with 20 more to go. I just hope that this doesn't take a plunge.
My Final Thoughts:
Ok. I also finished this series and it was fun to watch. Supposedly this series was not too popular but I really do not know why. Maybe it was because there was too much dialogue that people would get lost? I don't know. For me, personally, I thought there was a good balance of action and dialogue. It definitely kept me entertained and kept me wanting for more. The ending was definitely anti-climactic. You knew it was going to end that way but I think they still did a good job closing out the series and tying loose ends.
Overall I give this series a 4 out of 5. Definitely a "must see".
